Biofeedback is the use of computerized instrumentation to record or mirror the psychophysiological processes in the body that we are not normally aware of.
Today, with the benefit of computerized and digital technology, we can simultaneously look at numerous physical processes, for example, muscle tension, peripheral skin temperature, electrical skin conductance, and brain waves.
The underlying philosophy of biofeedback is to basically return responsibility for one's well-being back to the individual. This is done through increasing one's awareness of stress and improving the ability to voluntarily control psychophysiology through use of visualization and imagery.
Biofeedback is used either alone or as an adjunct to Clinical Counseling in treating the following disorders:
· Diabetes
· Tinnitus
· Chronic pain
· Asthma
· Dermatitis
· Dysmennorhea and dyssnergia
· High blood pressure
· Tension headaches
· Insomnia
· Irritable bowel syndrome
· Myofacial pain and TMJ
· Incontinence
· Raynaud's disease
· Executive stress
· Smoking cessation
· Phobias
· Weight problems
Fortunately, people from all walks of life and ages are benefiting from the many supportive, meaningful psychophysiological treatment approaches provided through biofeedback and neurofeedback. Although many persons are already functioning effectively, it is still possible to grow, develop, and further improve the quality of one's health and life.
McCarthy Counseling Associates, PA believes in this positive holistic approach to physical and emotional well-being as well as having the clinical and technical knowledge to help others achieve their desired goals.
Biofeedback sessions at-a-distance are available worldwide, and in-home evaluation and treatment is also available for non-ambulatory patients.
